OCSA's heritage dates all the way back to 1881. We began as the Union Association of Lumber Dealers, and our original roster included members from seven states. Since then, the Association has grown and changed in countless ways. The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) represents its members in the national public policy arena, with emphasis on efforts to 1) promote the industry and educate legislators and public policy personnel; and 2) assist legislative, regulatory, standard-setting and other government or private bodies in the development of laws, regulations and policies affecting lumber and building material dealers, its customers and suppliers. Founded in 1917, the association has over 6,000 members operating single or multiple lumber yards and component plants serving homebuilders, subcontractors, general contractors, and consumers in the new construction, repair and remodeling of residential and light commercial structures. Today's lumber and building material (LBM) dealer is typically an active community member; the supplier of choice for professional contractors, builders, and remodelers; and a resource for those seeking reliable service, quality materials, kitchen and bath showrooms, and expert advice on do-it-yourself projects. The LBM dealer in your area may also manufacture and distribute trusses, millwork, doors or windows; or provide installation services from framing to insulation to garage doors.
